The Recycled Claim Standard (RCS) and Global Recycled Standard (GRS) is a global non-profit organization that promotes responsible and sustainable development in the textile industry. It enhances products made from recycled materials, in compliance with environmental and social criteria extended to every stage of the production chain. With this standard, Textile Exchange acknowledges the crucial importance of recycling for the growth of a sustainable production and consumption model. It aims to encourage the reduction of resource consumption (virgin raw materials, water and energy) and to increase the quality of recycled products. And it has a robust chain of custody from the source up to the final product.

The RCS and GRS have three main objectives:

<li data-immersive-translate-walked="e0ed9ded-3fe6-4c37-b4f0-b5d7d3c51170" data-immersive-translate-paragraph="1">Verify recycled content in products.</li>
<li data-immersive-translate-walked="e0ed9ded-3fe6-4c37-b4f0-b5d7d3c51170" data-immersive-translate-paragraph="1">Give brands and consumers a means to make informed buying decisions.</li>
</ul>
The GRS has additional aims:

<li data-immersive-translate-walked="e0ed9ded-3fe6-4c37-b4f0-b5d7d3c51170" data-immersive-translate-paragraph="1">Provide assurance that products are processed in a more climate-friendly way.</li>
<li data-immersive-translate-walked="e0ed9ded-3fe6-4c37-b4f0-b5d7d3c51170" data-immersive-translate-paragraph="1">Encourage higher proportions of recycled content in products.</li>
</ul>

Materials are verified to meet the ISO definition of “recycled.” Both pre-consumer and post-consumer material is accepted.

GRS sites are required to meet strict social and environmental requirements. Chemicals with harmful potential aren’t allowed to be used on GRS products.

Products that meet all requirements may be labeled with the RCS or GRS logo.

The RCS and GRS are managed with the input of producers, suppliers, brands, and retailers from all parts of the globe.
