Tencel, also known as metallic-yarn regenerated cellulose fiber, is a premium blended fabric created by combining polyester with natural fibers such as hemp, linen or cotton. It boasts the lustrous sheen and supple hand-feel of silk. In contrast, Lyocell fiber is derived from natural wood sources, primarily fir, and is characterized by its inherent softness, smoothness and breathability.
The key differences lie in their distinct features. Tencel exhibits high strength, stretchability, wear-resistance, easy washability and vibrant coloration, making it well-suited for high-end apparel, bedding, curtains and accessories. Lyocell, on the other hand, is valued for its softness, moisture management, pill-resistance and ease of care, finding common use in premium bedding, undergarments and t-shirts.
